The Correct Way to Write Today’s Date.
When it comes to writing today’s date, there are two main approaches:
- Using only numbers. (Eg: 11/01/2024)
- Using a mix of words and numbers. (Eg: November 1, 2024)
Then there are also two standards for writing today’s date:
- The American English standard, format for writing the date is: MM/DD/YYYY (month-day-year).
(E.g., 10-31-2024 for October 31, 2024). - The British English standard, format for writing the date is: DD/MM/YYYY (day-month-year).
(E.g., 31-10-2024 for October 31, 2024).
Writing the date including weekday
The weekday always comes first and is separated from the rest by a comma:
- Weekday, Month Date (date in digits), 2024 (American)
- Weekday, Date (date in digits) Month 2024 (British)
( Please note there is no comma between the date and the year. )
Different standards can cause confusion
If you write the date with only digits it can easily lead to misunderstanding.
For example the date 10/03/2024 can be either:
- October 3, 2024 (American interpretation)
- March 10 2024 (British interpretation)
This is a reason why it can be better to write the name of the month.
